Global MedTech Commercialisation Executive

Theodoros (Theo) Mastrokostopoulos has more than 15 years experience in the medical device space, with a strong track record in commercial leadership roles launching new technologies for patients that need them most. He is currently the Vice President of Sales and Market Development at LimFlow, an early stage venture based in Paris where he leads global go-to-market activities for an innovative therapy that can prevent major amputation in patients with end-stage peripheral arterial disease. He began his medtech career at Medtronic in their European headquarters in Switzerland with roles of increasing responsibility in marketing and sales within the diabetes, surgical technologies and cardiovascular units. He previously led the European operations for TriVascular, an early-stage company with a novel endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) device, as the company grew through an initial public offering on NASDAQ and eventual acquisition by a larger corporate. Most recently, he was the chief commercial officer at CAScination, a spin-off from the University of Bern in Switzerland, leading the global launch of a CT-guided navigation technology for interventional oncology. Theo holds an MBA from the London Business School and a MEng in production engineering and management from the Technical University of Crete.

My background is widespread and is combining studies and experience ranging from crafting and aligning a corporate strategy and responding to competition with innovative actions to handling and rearranging business operations and filling in accounting and financial information to analyzing pricing decisions. This diversity has allowed me to obtain a broader view in developing new business ventures ranging from evaluation of the business proposition to financial projections analysis. To this end I am happy to assist new entrepreneurs of any age that pursuit their dreams. I am doing so through various Incubator programs such as Orange Grove, Ace-In, EkinisiLab and by personal coaching and innovation competitions such as innovation and iBank. I have also been extensively engaged with business advisory, trying to assist established firms with limited organizational capabilities to evolve to viable, competitive players in their markets and organize their internal resources in a more efficient way. I have also been a member of the European Space Agency (ESA) Technology Transfer initiative team. I believe that entrepreneurship is very important and can significantly advance economic prosperity and improvement of the national level of innovation through the utilization of ICT and smart ways to approach current customer pains worldwide.

Diomidis Spinellis is a Professor in the Department of Management Science and Technology at the Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece. From 2009 to 2011 he served as the Secretary General for Information Systems at the Greek Ministry of Finance. He is the author of two award-winning books, Code Reading and Code Quality: The Open Source Perspective, as well as more than 200 widely-cited scientific papers. He served for a decade as a member of the IEEE Software editorial board, authoring the regular “Tools of the Trade” column. Dr. Spinellis has written the UMLGraph tool and code that ships with Mac OS X and BSD Unix. He holds an MEng in Software Engineering and a PhD in Computer Science, both from Imperial College London. Angeliki Poulymenakou is Associate Professor in the Department of Management Science & Technology of the Athens University of Economics and Business. Prior to this, she has served as Lecturer in Information Systems at the Information Systems Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science. She holds a first degree in Mathematics (University of Athens), and MSc and PhD degrees in Information Systems both from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research interests over the years have addressed advanced knowledge analysis and management methods (PhD), inter-organisational networks, IT enabled organisational change and new methods of work, business processes level implications of ERP, e-learning particularly in workplace contexts, e-government (studies in Brazil and Greece), and implications of digital entrepreneurship (China). She has published 25 papers in international journals, 50 papers in peer reviewed international conferences and two books (by Springer Berlin and Kluwer Academic Publishers). Currently she serves on the editorial board of three international journals, while she has served on the program committee and as associate editor for international information systems conferences for multiple years (ICIS, ECIS, IFIP). She has been program co-chair and organising chair for the IFIP WG 8.2 & 9.4 conference (Athens, 2003), program chair for MCIS (Athens, 2009) and programme and organising chair for IFIP WG 9.5 (Athens, 2009). She has acted as research coordinator in 20 EU and national funded Research and Development projects most of them involving collaboration with academic and industrial partners across Europe. Since 2001 she is the Director of the Organisational Information Systems Research Group first in the ELTRUN and then in the ISTLab of the Department of Management Science and Technology of the AUEB.

In 2004 I founded DiabetesAmerica, a network of diabetes centers that pioneered bundled payment models, and in 2002 mAbGen, a cancer biotech company that partnered with MDAnderson Cancer Center and was acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals. In 2005 I was an early entrant into digital health and introduced a number of new applications and approaches in digital health and devices.

That's why we created Kaizen Labs. Kaizen labs is a corporate incubator/accelerator that works with startups, universities and big tech organizations.
