Speaker: Joe Bill
The U.S. is the birthplace of improvised theater, and artists such as Joe Bill are pioneers in spreading the art form internationally, as well as applying its techniques to other areas, such as business and presentation skills training. Applied Improvisation, a methodology of developing business skills through improvised theater techniques, is currently highly appraised and utilized by several Fortune 500 companies around the world. Joe Bill is a performer and teacher, and one-half of the improv duo Bassprov. He is widely regarded as one of the best teachers of Scenic and Comedic Improvisation in America today. He first encountered improvisation in 1977, and by 1990 he had performed professionally with 5 different sketch comedy and improv groups, studied with Del Close at Improv Olympic, and with Martin DeMaat, Michael Gellman, Bernie Sahlins and others before graduating from the Second City Training Center. He has also worked for many years as a nationally touring stand-up comedian. Bill and Mark Sutton (his partner in the nationally touring improvised production, BASSPROV), have developed their teaching technique POWER IMPROV, which they both have been teaching all over the U.S., Canada and Europe, at festivals, theaters and universities since 2000. Bill has performed, coached, and directed for a vast number of successful groups. He has also taught and performed at every major Improv Festival in the United States. He currently teaches and does corporate training at iO Chicago, is an Artistic Associate for the Chicago Improv Festival, and acts as an Artistic Adviser for a number of improvisation and comedy theaters all over the U.S. and Canada.
